The Uganda Communications Commission has issued a warning that it could permanently block electronic communication devices of Ugandans who misuse the internet by inciting violence and spreading misinformation and disinformation, especially as the country prepares for upcoming elections. The Executive Director, Nyombi Nyembo, has stated that the commission is aware that some Ugandans are accessing social media platforms through Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), despite these platforms being restricted to maintain public order. Currently, UCC has no issue with Ugandans using VPNs, but they may take action if these tools are misused.
