Kampala is under growing pressure from urban crime. Although the capital hosts just about 3.5 percent of Uganda’s population, it accounts for nearly 40 percent of the country’s reported crimes. From violent robberies to coordinated gang attacks—many first captured and circulated on social media—residents across several city suburbs say fear is mounting and confidence in the security response is waning.
